Business plan 2010-2015

Every 5 years we submit a business plan to Ofwat, our regulator. This sets out what we can charge customers for the next five years and what we spend money on in making our water and wastewater operations world class.

Below you will find a detailed break down of the latest plan we submitted, and here an indication of how we plan to invest over £2 billion across the region.

Summary of what we’re spending where:

• £1,224 million on maintaining and improving what we’ve currently got, from pipes and meters to treatment works (we call these assets).
• £94 million on improving customer service, including reducing the risk to customers of losing water supply.
• £123 million on improving water quality. We’ll also look at addressing the impact of rising levels of nitrate in underground water supplies.
• £267 million environmental improvements to increase protection for the plants, animals and habitats in our region.
• £588 million on meeting the needs of a growing region. Over the next five years we will provide 145,000 new homes with a water supply and allow for 180,000 properties to connect to our sewerage network.

Looking to the next five year business plan

We continue to hold meetings with the Quinquepartite group that helped us develop our 2010 to 2015 business plans. This group is made up of representatives from Consumer Council for Water, Drinking Water Inspectorate, Environment Agency and Natural England and was an important forum for sharing information and advice throughout the business planning process.

The Quinquepartite group is evolving into a Customer Challenge Forum over coming months to help advise and challenge us as we develop our long term strategy and business plan for 2015-2020. The minutes of the Quinquepartite April meeting can be found below.
