Gosia's Photo Profile

Gosia has recently been appointed one of our Service Delivery Scientists within Wastewater after successfully completing our graduate management programme as a Wastewater Scientist Graduate Management Trainee.  Gosia entered our graduate programme with a degree in environmental engineering.

In 2004 I graduated from university in Poland, where I got my first job as a water protection specialist. After a while I decided that I wanted to move to England so that I could gain more skills and experience.

I found a job at Anglian Water as a Sludge Technician. It was only after I joined that I learnt about the Graduate Management Programme. I talked to my manager about it, who himself had started on the Graduate Management Programme, and he encouraged me to go for it.

The training has been really comprehensive. There are various day-long courses that you get to attend, and you’ll always be looked after by a mentor or manager; I’ve learnt so much from mine. There is a tremendously supportive culture throughout the organisation.

I’ve found that I gained management experience by being given the responsibility to do it, but knowing that there was someone there in the background looking out for me and supporting me if I needed it.

I’m really proud to work for Anglian Water because not only are they a well-regarded company but they also share my ethics and view on the environment. It’s great that we’re recognised as a company that thinks green and I’m glad to be a part of it.

My job at Anglian Water requires me to react quickly to unplanned situations. This is a part of the job that I really enjoy, but there are always so many things going on that you have to have strong time management and prioritisation skills. You must also be extremely persistent and determined to deliver the best service possible, always being able to take a step back and see the bigger picture in difficult situations.

I’m genuinely enthusiastic about my job because I love it. I not only enjoy what I do but also working with the people around me. Anglian Water is a brilliant company for graduates because they empower their employees, encourage them to think ambitiously about their careers. You’ll be supported to try different things with excellent training.

In my case I had an environmental background, but as a graduate you don’t need this to succeed here. For anyone finishing study, this is the chance to work with a well-recognised company, developing your skills and self-confidence in the world of work.

You’re never bored in this job and you always feel rewarded for the work you do. You’ll never sit in the office for eight hours waiting to go home. This isn’t the sort of job where you can plan your day – if you like the thought of facing new challenges every day, this is the scheme for you.
