For Anglian Water customers, an accurate meter reading is the first step to a positive relationship.
And for the past six years, Les Peace has been there to make sure that readings are taken on time and that bills are as accurate as possible. “I have a target of 200 reads a day. Sometimes, everything goes smoothly and I know exactly where to go to find meters. But out in the countryside, the meter can be located right under the hedgerow or right in the middle of a field - so it’s easy to miss. When I finally find it, it’s important to record clear directions for next time we need to read it. We try hard to visit every home or business once in a six month period."
It’s a challenging job and a Meter Reader has to be ready for everything from cutting back bracken and driving in the snow to dealing with irate customers. Helping to find a solution is important and I get a lot of satisfaction out of doing just that.”
