Adoption of a new sewer

meeting between developer and staff from anglian water

Adoptable sewerage systems should be designed and constructed in accordance with the standards and specifications set out in the latest edition of Sewers for Adoption. This details the necessary steps and measures that are required to ensure the integrity of both the new system and the downstream network.

The sewers for adoption guide  was first issued in 1980. Since then the document has become the standard for the design and construction of sewers to adoptable standards in England and Wales. It acts as a guide to assist developers in preparing their submission to a sewerage undertaker before they enter into an Adoption Agreement under Section 104 of the Water Industry Act 1991.

The sewers for adoption application form can be downloaded below or alternatively you can contact us and we will send one to you.

The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations do not allow us to progress your application until we have received all the necessary information.

The completed application form and associated documents will be used to complete technical vetting of your submission and preparation of an adoption agreement under Section 104 of the Water Industry Act 1991.

Designing a public sewer

It is important that any sewer being constructed which is to be adopted by Anglian Water is designed and constructed to adoptable standard. Anglian Water have produced a series of preferred arrangements that will be of assistance to designers of public sewers.
