The lateral drain is the section of drain from the property boundary to the point of connection with the public sewer.
Under the provisions of the Water Act 2003, Anglian Water has the power to take ownership of a lateral drain, constructed after 28th May 2004, which satisfies sewer standards. The minimum 'sewer standard' required by Anglian Water is that contained in the current version of 'Sewers for Adoption' published by Water Research Centre.
