An otter on the river bank.

Water for Wildlife is a national project between Water UK, the Wildlife Trust and the Environment Agency. In our region it has been very successful and projects are running in Norfolk, Suffolk, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Essex.

The Lincolnshire Chalk Streams Project is working to conserve and enhance chalk and limestone streams in the county. It brings together the Environment Agency, Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service, Natural England, Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, the Wild Trout Trust and Anglian Water to work in partnership. Together we take action to ensure that nature conservation, landscape, community and economic opportunities offered by Lincolnshire's Chalk Streams are fully realized.

We have been working very closely with the Cambridge Water for Wildlife team in 2008 to survey for otters. Of the first 10 sites surveyed, six showed signs of otters. We expanded our survey in to Suffolk and surveyed 15 sites and 10 have showed positive signs of otter being present.

In 2010 and 2011 the survey will be looking at sites in Norfolk and Essex.
