Blocked manhole with fats, oil and grease

Instead of tipping unwanted fat, oil and grease (FOG) down the sink, which can cause unwelcome blockages, odour issues as well as attracting vermin, Anglian Water is encouraging all it customers to take used cooking oil to a recycling centre across the region.

There are now a number of recycling centres which collect waste cooking oil through a scheme with Living Fuels, who take the oil and convert into electricity. Schemes have been launched in a Norfolk and Suffolk and the used cooking oil is collected by Living Fuels.

A new charter and mission statement from Anglian Water has been launched to help prevent pollution caused by fats, oils and grease (FOG) in sewers. It was launched with the backing of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), the Environment Agency and Water UK. To find out more contact our Media team on 0870 600 5 600.

Please use the links above for more details and watch out for more news as they are introduced by more county councils.

Anglian Water is working closely with local authorities to publicise free schemes through which commercial catering establishments such as restaurants, takeaways, pubs, and hotels can sign up to have their waste FOG, including hard fat, taken away and converted into biodiesel by a licensed carrier on a regular basis. Local authorities interested in working with Anglian Water in this way should contact our media team as above.
