Reservoir levels

The shore line at Rutland Water in January

The September rainfall was 127% of the long term average and was the fifth month running with above average rainfall. Over the last 12 months the rainfall has been 102% of the long term average, which, given how wet it has been this summer, is an indication of how relatively dry it was over last winter. Groundwater levels have shown some recovery. Rivers are responding to the heavy rain, but otherwise mostly showing normal to below normal flows.

Overall our reservoirs are 88% full and are operating within normal ranges, but we ask our customers to remain 'Waterwise' whatever the weather.

The graphs below show monthly rainfall for the region compared to average, and the volumes held in our main storage reservoirs up to the end of September.

The Environment Agency also monitors the water resource situation and compiles a monthly report, available from their website.
