Your wastewater services

toilet handle

Anglian Water collects and treats the water that our customers have used, returning it to the environment via rivers and coastal outlets. The water is sampled regularly and tested against strict Environment Agency standards.

We collect approximately 960 million litres of wastewater every day from 5.5 million customers, including some customers who receive their water from other companies.

Our wastewater network includes 43,751 kilometres of pipes connected to 1,106 wastewater treatment works.

Each year we spend around £5million unblocking sewers. Items we've found in sewers over the years have included mattresses, bicycles, fridges, shopping trolleys, false teeth and tonnes of fat!

More than two thirds of all blockages are caused by people putting things down the sewers that shouldn't be there.

If a sewer gets even partially blocked, wastewater may not flow freely and can cause the pipes to overflow, especially during heavy rainfall.

Find out more on how to avoid blockages to help your sewage network.

Is your sewer blocked?

If you think a sewer is blocked, call us on 08457 145 145. This is a local rate number that operates 24 hours a day.
