At first glance an actual meter reading may appear higher than you expect, particularly if you have recently had a water meter fitted.

Possible reasons for high consumption

  • Dripping taps, washing machine flooding, overflow and ballcock problems.
  • A leak on your private supply pipe.
  • Previous bills could have been based on estimated readings, especially if you have recently moved into a property and we were unable to obtain an actual start reading.
  • A longer than normal period between meter readings (meter readings are usually taken every six months).
  • Building work and redecoration or a new lawn being laid leading to higher than normal use of water.
  • The number of people living at the property has increased since the previous bill.
