Gary Edmonds 37lb 2oz Pike

Gary Edmonds  took the fish of a lifetime when he landed a colossal 37lb 2oz specimen Pike at Grafham. Gary took this fish on his own fly and it was a personal best.

Fish 248 (season 15,838) Returns 87 (2,452) Rod average 2.8 (6.4)

The predator fishing at Grafham has been outstanding with Gary Edmonds landing a Pike of 37lb 2oz. Trout anglers have also had a great week with the biggest Rainbow weighing in at 6lb.

Tom Finney caught the best Rainbow of the week whilst practicing for Mark Haycock’s Pairs match. Tom landed a fantastic specimen Rainbow of 6lb.

Boat anglers are finding fish in the open water. These can be targeted up or down in the water using a mixture of dries, lures, nymphs and diawl bachs depending on the current conditions. There are also good fish to take around the weedbeds, particularly on the west bank and north shore, with large specimens being found hunting amongst and on the outskirts of weedbeds. Top of the menu are snail and shrimp, though some will also be found fry feeding. Boat anglers should target the clearer areas of the reservoir without algal blooms which currently are the north shore, west shore and middle.

Bank anglers are finding fish on the Dam, Plummers, Hill Farm, Deep Water Point, Marlow Arm and the North shore bays. The dam is fishing very close in so it’s worth casting along the wall to start your retrieve with shrimp being the main food source, otherwise shrimp, snail, diawl bachs and ptn’s are working well from most other places.

Many fish are starting to be caught on dry flies by bank and boat anglers alike, from Gaynes Cove all the way to the weedbeds on the west bank.

Daddies are popular, particularly the yellow backed daddies with crunchers and hoppers working well in the surface film.

Predator fishing
Huge congratulations to Gary Edmonds who took the fish of a lifetime when he landed a colossal 37lb 2oz specimen Pike. Gary landed this fish on his own fly and it was a personal best. The challenge is set for the rest of the season and we haven’t even got the lures and dead baits out yet!

Many predator anglers are catching a few during the day. The north tower has a good few zander and perch being caught with many others found along the pipeline and some very large perch and zander being spotted in the bays of the north shore. Pike are also starting to show themselves with a number of upper doubles coming out.
