Grafham's best Brown of the season was caught this week. Steve Battle landed a whopping specimen of 8lb 7oz from Sanctuary Bay last Thursday. Steve is a very experienced angler often landing big fish at Grafham in poor conditions. Steve enjoyed some memorable fishing with the two best Rainbows of the week; 4lb 6oz and 4lb 12oz.

Fish 516(season 10,456) Returns 133(1,414) Rod average 3.88(7.3)
The weather conditions combined with some algal bloom have made fishing challenging. Anglers seeking out the clearer water are having the greatest success. The rod average stands at 3.88.

Successful boat fishing techniques in the recent sunny weather have been diawl bachs and nymphs, working them deep in 10 to 12 feet of water on a slow retrieve. Zander fry have hatched so fry patterns will give a great chance of hooking an over wintered fish. When the cloud cover comes over the fish rise quickly and begin looking for dries or immerging insects so make sure you still have that floating line in your bag. The fish are still relatively close in, (60-80 yards) and casting back towards the bank is a good starting point for all, particularly on the north shore.

Bank fishing can be fantastic even in short sessions with most doing better in the early morning or into the evening. With the shrimp moving around more commonly you can get your GHRE back out of the box and begin working them close to the bottom on a medium figure 8. Fish the rocky and gravelly areas for the most successful shrimp action. Now that the weedbeds have begun to shoot up, so are the numbers of migrating snail. Most fish are rattling with the amount of snail they have eaten, so locate the weedbeds and fish down wind of them.
