Another outstanding week at Rutland Water, particularly for big Browns with superb specimens being landed daily.

Fish 538(season 41,814) Returns 159(8,351) Rod average 3.38 (5.0)

The best fish of the week was taken by Richard Maryniak who fished with boat partner Mike Skipper last Friday. Richard landed a superb Brown of 8lb 6oz, this was a personal best and fell to a minkie.

Toff Crowther of Oakham has enjoyed a fantastic season with nearly 20 fish over 5lb to date. Toff’s best fish this week weighed 6lb 8oz.

John Micklam netted a 6lb 10oz fish whilst sharing a boat with Frank Humphrey. The pair, based in Sussex, enjoyed a few days boat fishing whilst on holiday. Frank chipped in with a 4lb 12½oz fish caught on the same day.

Simon Smith recently took a personal best fish of around 4½ - 5lb. Simon fished alongside Simon Caldy and the pair were guided by Nigel Savage.

John Riley caught a personal best Brown from Rutland estimated at around the 4lb mark.

Fry patterns are accounting for the majority of fish which are mostly being taken close in to the shoreline. Last year’s Rainbows on the whole are opting to stay out in the open water where there is very little food available. Rudder boats have picked up fish as have broad (loch style) boats fishing mini lures, nymph combinations.

Despite another 2,000 Rainbows stocked around the shoreline bank fishing is rather slow with anglers reluctant to give it a go. Boat anglers are accounting for the lion’s share of the sport.

Prospects for Brown trout fishing are superb with big fish showing well. There is plenty of food around the shoreline, particularly Roach, Perch and Sticklebacks. The cooler weather forecasted should bring the Rainbows closer in to feed.

Sunday 22 October is the Fry Feeders match and all boats are booked.
Please note that there is a high demand for boats at this time of year – booking is essential. Please call the fishing lodge on 01780 686441.
