Grafham Water Championship 2017

Fantastic match rod average of 9

This match, fished on 16 September, attracted the highest placed teams from the Regional Finals that hadn't qualified to fish in the Anglian Water Airflo International final at Rutland Water.

78 anglers representing thirteen teams came forward to fish for a generous cash prize along with tackle prizes. The conditions on the day were perfect (if a little blustery) with overcast skies, decent ripple and a little rain. The anglers did not fail to take advantage of the conditions and all headed straight out into the open water on the west side of the reservoir and began drifting towards the dam. There were 12 limits of 14 fish with over 50% of the anglers managing at least 7 fish on the day.A huge number of fish were landed for a colossal rod average of 9 for the day.

Some good fish came to the scales with Si Morris of Greylags FFC taking a cracking Rainbow of 3lb 12oz, although he was just beaten to the biggest fish of the day with David Kemp of Perth RASC taking a 4lb Brown. The best bag fell to Anthony Cartwright fishing for FNF Nymphomaniacs with a huge bag weighing 32lb 11oz.

The Nymphomaniacs won by a generous margin. The Shamrogues from Eire took second place – an outstanding performance as this is their first year fishing the AWAI. Northern Drifters were only a few pounds behind in third place.
