Drought garden and arboretum at Rutland Water Park

Drought garden at Rutland Water Park

Designed by the late Geoff Hamilton, this attractive garden on a south-facing clay slope at Barnsdale has survived dry summers and penetrating frost.

See how you can avoid watering your garden by visiting the drought garden that is maintained on behalf of Anglian Water by Barnsdale Gardens. The arboretum shows the species of trees planted around the reservoir.

An activity booklet about the trees of Rutland Water is available from Anglian Water visitor centres - this is suitable for both adults and children.

Barnsdale Gardens are nearby and maybe familiar to BBC2 viewers as the home of the late Geoff Hamilton and Gardeners' World - Barnsdale Gardens.

Opening times

Open throughout the year, except Christmas Day. Admission is free.
