Wicked wipe character in Anglian Water's pantomime

A pantomime with a difference is just about to go on the road devised by Anglian Water’s Keep it Clear programme and Mad Science.

Dame Flush and the Wicked Wipe has all the classic features of a pantomime, music, slapstick and interactive experiments - but with a serious message - wipes, fats and oils can cause blocked pipes!

It features the wonderful Dame Flush, who is trying to protect her waterworks from the dastardly deeds of the Wicked Wet Wipe, with the help of her son, the principal boy Justin Flush and Sinkerella, a hardworking plumber.

The pantomime will be staged in schools and community groups right across the region from Lincoln to Tilbury raising awareness about the danger blocked pipes pose to the environment and homes.

More than 80 per cent of blockages are avoidable, caused by fats, oils and grease, going down the sink, or unflushable items such as wipes, cotton buds and other sanitary waste being flushed down the toilet.

The Keep it Clear programme has been working with Mad Science, which provides fun, interactive learning for youngsters, for a number of years now going to schools and community groups running assemblies and activities. The aim is to empower young people and their families to help protect the environment.

Anglian Water programme manager Rachel Dyson said: “The pantomime is a fabulous way of engaging with young people and families, especially at the festive time of year when we tend to see an increase in the number of preventative wipe and fat blockages, which can be very distressing if people’s homes are flooded, not to mention costly to put right.”
