Between April 2010 and March 2015, the AMP5 period, Anglian Water is investing £150 million to increase the treatment capacity of our sewage treatment works.  In 2010 we treated the waste water from an equivalent resident population of 6 million.

The population in our region, despite the recent downturn in the housing market, is growing fast and this increases quantity of waste water that we have to treat.  This can inevitably cause problems achieving the final effluent standards.  We work closely with the various planning organisations across our region to understand where and when large new developments are likely to occur, so that we can make appropriate plans for the provision of clean water and for the treatment of waste water.

The increased capacity being provided in the AMP5 period will accommodate an increase in the population of 200,000.
