Sewer adoptions

We will consider applications to adopt new or existing sewers. If we agree to adopt your sewer, an adoption agreement must be entered into.

Once we have adopted your sewer, it will become part of our sewerage network and will be maintained by us.

If you would like us to adopt an existing sewer, you must submit plans and details of the sewers for initial consideration before we can make a decision on adoption of the sewer.

We now have the ability to carry out some of your appointments virtually. Using our new video technology called 'ResponsEye', your Anglian Water representative will be able to be present onsite without physically being there! Take a look and let us know if you'd like to take advantage of this new technology.

The adoption of new sewers remains optional.

The new sewerage adoption arrangements become mandatory from 1 October 2020, standardising the process across the country. Sewers for Adoption has been replaced by the ‘Design & Construction Guidance’. Included within is provision for Sewerage Undertakers to adopt SUDs facilities. We strongly encourage Developers to contact us to discuss this further, prior to making new applications.

Should you decide to apply for adoption before 1st October 2020, the new sewers should be designed and constructed in accordance with either Sewers for Adoption or the Design Construction Guidance.

Please be aware that Sewerage Code for Adoption is now live. All new Section 104 applications must comply with the Design Construction Guidance from 1st October 2020. Please visit our webpage on Codes for Adoption for further advice.

To apply for the adoption of a new or existing sewer(s), please apply via InFlow using the link on the right hand side.
