RiverCare and BeachCare

In 2001, we set up and funded RiverCare and BeachCare in partnership with Keep Britain Tidy.

The programme  brings together 'friends of' and community groups, canoe clubs, residents’ associations and neighbourhoods – all with  a common goal to improve their local river or beach environment.

Supporters  adopt a stretch of their local watercourse or beach and carry out a range of activities including: litter picking, removal of non-native species, wildlife surveying and monitoring, habitat management and restoration.

For more information and to get involved, visit RiverCare and BeachCare.

A RiverCare volunteer describing the benefits of being a part of the programme.

“A real sense of camaraderie (and) a sense of satisfaction at seeing improvements to the river. I have learnt a lot about the environment, gained confidence in what I can contribute and achieve and I have learnt a lot about team work. It has altogether been a very worthwhile experience for me.”

AECOM says we’re ‘making a difference’

In 2015 we commissioned the  AECOM consultancy to assess how RiverCare and BeachCare adds value to society, to the environment and directly to us at Anglian Water. Their study covered activity from 2010-2015 and  identified a range of qualitative, quantitative and monetary benefits that show we’re ‘making a difference’ and supporting our 'Caring for Communities', ‘Satisfied Customers’ and 'Flourishing Environment' outcomes.
