The coastal protection team

A lot of the sources of pollution that can affect coastal water quality are not linked to Anglian Water assets. However, we see it as our responsibility to collaborate with coastal communities, Local Authorities, local businesses and others to help them address the risks. By working together we can safeguard both the coastal environment and the local economy.

Some examples of the potential sources of diffuse pollution that the team will be working with others to address include:

  • Slurry from farms
  • Animal waste from fields washing into watercourses when it rains
  • Sediment disturbed through river dredging
  • Fouling from roosting sea birds
  • Trade waste
  • Poorly maintained private cess pits and sewerage systems
  • Discharges from boating
  • Misconnections (find out more about misconnections and to see whether you have a misconnected property and what you can do about it).
