East West Rail is creating a new direct connection between Oxford and Cambridge, and beyond. Serving communities across the area, it will bring faster journey times and lower transport costs as well as easing pressure on local roads.
This section of work is part of the Bicester to Bedford Western Section, Phase 2. East West Rail Phase 2 reinstates and upgrades railway lines to enable new train services to run between Oxford and Milton Keynes, between Oxford and Bedford and between Milton Keynes and Aylesbury. It also involves creating a new station at Winslow, building two new platforms at Bletchley, installing 8 new over-bridges, 22 new footbridges or subways and making changes to 97 railway crossings.
Part of this work includes construction of a new over-bridge at Queen Catherine Road and bringing the currently mothballed railway line back into service. In preparation for this project we need to move one of our water pipes to enable the project to go ahead.
Facts and FAQs
Why are we doing this work?
Our water pipe currently clashes with East West Rail’s plans to build a new over-bridge and before they can begin their work, we need to move our water pipe that would otherwise be in the way.
When will you be doing this work?
Our work will start on 05 October 2020 and is expected to last approximately 6 weeks. We will be working Monday – Friday 7am – 6pm, the closure of Queen Catherine Road will be in place 24/7 to ensure the safety of the public for the duration of our work.
We need to move one of our water pipes, to do this we will lay a new twin pipe and connect it into the existing pipe away from where the new over-bridge will be. The twin pipe will also bring more security to your water supply in the future.
Will my water supply or sewerage services be affected?
Your water supply/sewerage services will not be affected by this work.
