A £400,000 project to secure the water supplies for around 7,500 Northamptonshire homes is underway.

The 12 week project by Anglian Water will add an extra level of security to homes in Guilsborough, West Haddon and Long Buckby which get most of their water from the firm’s Ravensthorpe water treatment works.

The project will see two large water mains in the Welford Road area linked together by a series of ‘cross-connections’. These additional linking pipes will make it easier for water to be moved around the area should there be any problems in future.

Antony Innes, from Anglian Water, said: “Unfortunately, the only way to carry out a project of this size is to dig a number of trenches across part of Welford Road and laying these new connecting pipes.

“Working in this way does mean that part of Welford Road, just before Acre Lane and up to Redland Drive, including the bus lane will be closed, with traffic lights in place to help traffic flow, for approximately six weeks from this week.

“We appreciate this work may case some disruption to residents and commuters in the local area and are sorry for this. Engineers will be working as quickly and safely as the can to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.”
