Anglian Water establishes new Directorate to focus on quality and the environment.
Water Resources East MD returns to AW to oversee largest ever quality and environmental programme.
Anglian Water is announcing the formation of a ‘Quality and Environment‘ directorate within the company.
The new business unit will focus exclusively on water quality and meeting the needs of the environment by driving forward the water company’s largest ever environmental investment programme, as well as ensuring Anglian Water continues to achieve the highest levels of compliance with regulatory standards.
Dr Robin Price will re-join Anglian Water to lead the directorate in the New Year. Dr Price was previously Head of Water Quality at Anglian Water and has spent the last three years as Managing Director of Water Resources East, spearheading the development of a long-term water management plan for the region.
Peter Simpson, CEO for Anglian Water said:
“We’re delighted to be welcoming Robin back to Anglian Water. His knowledge of what we do, our values, and ways of working, is second to none, as is his understanding of the challenges we face.
“In 2019, Anglian Water became the first major utility to change its Articles of Association to enshrine a requirement for its directors to consider the needs of communities and the environment alongside the provision of clean fresh water and water recycling services. There is no better time than now to further demonstrate our absolute commitment to the environment by creating this dedicated directorate and reinforcing our environmental vision for the region.
“We all have a role to play as part of delivering the largest programme of environmental investment of any water company in the UK. £800million will be invested between 2020 – 2025, specifically targeted at protecting and enhancing seas, rivers and habitats across our region.
“More recently, customers and government have rightly set the bar even higher in their expectations of us as monopoly provider of an essential public service, and custodians of the environment. The separating out of this area of the business, and the return of Robin, means they can be reassured we are listening to them, and are ready and willing to rise to the challenge.”
Dr Robin Price said: “I’m excited to be returning to Anglian Water. While the scale of the task at hand should not be underestimated, neither should the opportunity it presents. Anglian Water has always taken its responsibility to the environment incredibly seriously, and the formation of this new directorate is a clear indication that the business is absolutely on the front foot with regards to environmental protection, restoration and enhancement.”
Totalling £800million the company’s investment in protecting and enhancing the region’s environment is more than double that of the previous five years.
At the beginning of 2021 Anglian Water fast tracked £300 million of this investment for 200 environmental schemes specifically targeted at environmental improvements and river restoration projects, at no extra cost to customers.
By 2025 the business will reduce the amount of water it takes from the environment by 84 million litres a day.
Investing around £200million in schemes which will directly help reduce storm spills.
Investing over £7million across 16 separate schemes all designed to restore unique river habitats, improving ecology and biodiversity.
