A £450,000 project to increase the capacity of the sewer network and ease flooding will get underway in Caistor next week.

The scheme by Anglian Water, due to be completed by the end of August, will significantly reduce the chances of flooding if the network becomes overwhelmed by rainfall. This has been a problem for residents of properties on North Kelsey Road and Castle Hill in recent years.

The new work will increase the capacity of the network by installing 700 metres of pipeline along North Kelsey Road, Hersey Road, Caistor Grammar School playing field and land adjacent to Caistor Water Recycling Centre.

Satnam Kaur from Anglian Water said: “A project of this scale will inevitably result in some disruption to residents in the area and we’re sorry for the impact this may cause. However, we hope customers in this area will understand the importance of the scheme and the benefits once work is completed.

“We will be doing all we can to keep inconvenience to a minimum. We are using innovative ‘trenchless’ working techniques which means we will only need to dig ‘access pits’ at key points along the pipe’s route. We will also be working on a number of weekends and this will speed up the work and ensure that roads can re-open as soon as possible.”

From 14th July to end of August there will be road closures on North Kelsey Road and Hersey Road. To minimise disruption we endeavour to keep either North Kelsey Road or Hersey Road throughout the duration of the project, but there will be a short period when we will have to close both roads.

When North Kelsey Road will be closed a diversion will be place along Station Road, Street Lane, B1434 Ellmore Lane, B1205 Station Road, Moortown Rd, A46 Caistor Bypass, A1084 Grimsby Road, High St and back onto North Kelsey Road.

The Hersey Road diversion will be routed along Millfields, Navigation Lane, Nettleton Road, A46 Caistor By Pass, A1084 Grimsby Road, High Street, North Kelsey Road and back onto Hersey Rd

To complete the work safely a footpath on Navigation Lane will be closed for a short period during construction. There will be an alternative footpath along Millfields, Hersey Road and North Kelsey Road.
