Fish 265 (season 12,328) Returns 74(1,836) Rod average 3.58 (6.7)

A strong contrast in weather conditions has made fishing a little more challenging. However, experienced anglers are producing fantastic overwintered fish from varying styles and tactics. The rod average currently stands at 3.58.

Boat anglers are having increasing success using nymphs, snail patterns, red buzzers, red lures and white lures. As the water temperature increases it becomes essential to seek out areas of cooler water. Most of the fish caught in the past week have been on the westerly side of the reservoir, particularly around Sanctuary Bay, Rainbow Point, Hill Farm and West Bank. Top lines this week are floating and intermediate lines, with many fish being found in the top five feet of water.

There have been some great reports from the bank of shrimp feeding fish around the dam and along the north shore. These fish are coming out to a medium figure of 8, using patterns such as the GRHE and shrimp flies, though not to forget the fishing still to be had pulling lures over the top or down the side of the weedbeds. The harbour is still producing fish and is a good area to fish from the bank.

With the shrimp returning to the margins please remember the importance of using the wash down facilities at the end of all sessions. It’s essential that all anglers ensure that all equipment and clothing is checked, cleaned and dried.
