Anglers are finding plenty of fish at Grafham Water with a rod average of 5.1 for the week.

Fish 705 (season 19,314) Returns 137(3,202) Rod average 5.1 (6.0)

Another busy week and word has obviously spread that Grafham is fishing very well. Grafham has hosted two competitions - the B C Hall and the final AMFC of the year.

Yet again there have been a lot of Browns caught which is always encouraging and a number of anglers have been bagging up this week. Excluding the matches the best Brown of the week was taken by Dennis Cooper with a 5-6lb specimen The biggest Rainbow of the week went to John Hyams with a specimen of 3lb 8oz. John took a bag of 7 fish, including a 5lb Brown. Nick Evans also had a good week, catching a 3lb 8oz Brown and releasing another of 4lb 8oz, caught on shrimp.

This week’s rod average of 5.1 reflects the number of fish caught from both the bank and the boats and some outstanding match fishing.

Boat anglers have again seen the most fish caught from the Eastern side. Specifically close in on the north shore, near the Willows and the north Dam. Success can be had drifting into the bank (avoiding bank anglers) and fishing in roughly 12 inches of water. Methods and flies are shrimp patterns, GRHE’s and holographic red diawl bachs and this can be fished in the washing line set up with a blob or booby on the point to attract. There are fry feeders off Sludge Point and Valley Creek as well, with some better fish coming from Sludge Point.
With the shrimp and fish in the margins bank fishing is good on the north shore and on the south of the Dam. The Seat and Plummers is good for wading and Plummers especially is good for providing a bit of protection from the westerly winds. Flies are much the same as for boats, using shrimp patterns and red diawl bachs on a floating line. When retrieving try letting the wind drift the line around or try a series of jerky twitches, this method is proving very effective.

Just a reminder to season ticket holders – please ensure that your catch returns are submitted within the same week as you fished, otherwise the results do not contribute to the catch report.

Please note that the winter restrictions will be coming into force from 31 October.
