A little something to help you use less water

To help our customers use less water, we’ve partnered with Cenergist to trial a free water-saving device called a ‘Control Flow regulator’.

This clever bit of kit can reduce the amount of water used in your home by regulating the flow and smoothing out fluctuations caused by pressure - so you can use less water without changing your routine. Previous trials saw an average saving of around 20%.

At Anglian Water, we’re committed to protecting our region’s water resources. Taking part in this trial not only helps you save water in your own home, but also helps shape our future water saving plans – benefitting our environment, wildlife, and future generations.

Frequently asked questions

Who’s eligible to take part?

We’ve invited select households in Peterborough who have had a smart meter for at least a year to volunteer to take part.  Smart meters can help us understand how much water is being used across the region, as well as giving you more control over where you can save water and money.

You can take part in this trial if you’re the bill payer, whether you’re renting or a homeowner.

We’re looking to fit 200 trial devices, so taking part is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The device saves households money by controlling how much water flows through the pipes into your home and smoothing out the fluctuations in the water flow caused by pressure. The regulator ‘blocks’ any excess water coming into your home, reducing water consumption.

The Control Flow regulator is a patent-protected water-saving device.

No – it shouldn’t have any effect on your water pressure. Before the device is fitted, a technician will survey your home and set up the device that will work best for you, to make sure there are no noticeable changes to your water pressure.

The trial period will run from October 2024 to April 2025.

At the initial survey, Cenergist will collect information about the number of people living at the property, as well as types of boilers and showers you have to decide the appropriate Control Flow regulator device to fit at your property. They’ll also collect your name, phone number and email address so they can contact you. We’ll collect your anonymised monthly water usage data.

We’ll look after your monthly smart meter data which we’ll anonymise for the trial.  We’ll also look after your consent record and any survey or feedback information you might provide. Cenergist will be responsible the information needed to fit the regulator and provide technical support. Cenergist will work on our behalf to get your consent to take part in the trial and use your information to contact you with surveys and to get your feedback.

We’ll use your smart meter data to compare your anonymised monthly usage from a year before the Control Flow regulator is installed with your usage during the trial. This is in addition to the information collected during the survey.

Our Customer Privacy Notice has more information about the data we collect, what we use it for, and how we look after it. We also have a Smart Metering Privacy Notice which provides more information about smart metering data. You can find both privacy notices here

Cenergist will also use the information you provide to instal the device, keep in touch, send surveys and ask for feedback from you for the duration of the trial.

To access your smart meter readings showing your overall household usage, log in or register for MyAccount.

If you no longer want the device installed at your home, you can request to have it removed. Cenergist will sort this for you. You can also contact Cenergist to let us know if you withdraw your consent to use your information for the trial and want us to stop processing your information.  You can contact them by calling 0191 222 3325, or email watersaving@cenergist.com
