Having clean water and somewhere safe to go to the toilet are the most basic of human needs. It’s something we often take for granted. For people living in the poorest areas of the developing world, the lack of safe water and sanitation is devastating.  As a result one child dies every 20 seconds.

WaterAid was formed by water companies in 1981 and is still Anglian Water’s nominated charity. WaterAid now works in 26 countries across Africa, Asia and the Pacific region. To date they have helped more than 13 million people.

Through Anglian Water’s employee volunteering scheme, employees give their time to be on a dedicated committee to set challenging annual fundraising targets. In 2009/10 alone the committee raised a whopping £275,110 through employee fundraising and business partners, some examples of which you can see below. The committee also has a team of speakers who raise awareness for WaterAid’s work by giving talks to schools, Rotary Clubs, churches, women’s groups and many more.

Company employees also give to the charity through payroll giving and through the WaterAid lottery. A corporate donation of £40K is also made each year to help fund WaterAid’s running costs.

Anglian Water also supports WaterAid with a fundraising leaflet in customer water bills. Since its launch in 1993 over 17,000 customers have generously donated in response. Thank you for your vital support.
