The Independent Challenge Group (ICG) is a group of independent subject experts, industry regulators and independent members – with an Independent Chair.

We are dedicated to making sure Anglian Water is doing the best job it possibly can for its 7 million customers across the East of England and Hartlepool.

The ICG replaces the previous Customer Engagement Forum as an independent and critical friend to Anglian Water as the company prepares its five-year business plan for 2024-2030.

It’s our job to scrutinise and constructively challenge Anglian Water on:

  • the quality of its engagement with the customers and the wider communities and stakeholders it serves
  • the extent to which customer priorities are reflected in what the company does, and
  • the company’s delivery against those priorities.

In our work, we do not deal directly with customer complaints or questions. We look at customer views in the round – taking account of the diversity of the Anglian Water catchment area, both in terms of its habitats and its people. We will work alongside the Customer Board, which represents the interests of Anglian Water customers, reflecting the priorities of the full range of interests across the company’s area including:

  • current and future bill payers
  • other members of the household
  • business customers
  • anyone who lives or works in the area alongside community groups and tourists and travellers passing through.
