Keeping sewer pipes clear

Recycling cooking fat after lunch

Plugholes and toilet bowls are for used water not waste - you might not spot the connection between fat from your pots and plates and wet wipes, but we know it well.

So what’s the problem?

If we put things like fat, oil and grease (FOG) down our sinks, and sanitary waste and wipes (known as ‘unflushables’) down the loo, it can cause sewer pipes and pumps to block leading to sewer flooding in homes and gardens and sewage spills into local rivers and waterways.

There are 30,000 sewer blockages in the Anglian Water region, more than half are avoidable caused by FOG and unflushables. By working together, residents in targeted Keep it Clear locations have been able to reduce these blockages by an average of 52%. But we can all adopt the Keep it Clear habit, spread the word and go even further.

Keep It Clear is Anglian Water’s campaign to help reduce the misery, cost, bad smells and potential flooding and pollution caused by avoidable blockages.

Use the Why Keep It Clear? link to find out all you need to know the campaign and it's various programmes.
