How you can help

House showing areas of water use

At home, we each use an average of 145 litres of water a day. Some of that could easily be saved. Imagine if everyone in your house, your neighbours and in your community dropped that amount by 20 litres, every single day. That’s a lot of water saved for tomorrow.

Our homes aren’t always as water efficient as we imagine. An average toilet flush or  a leaky tap can waste lots of water. Have a quick check around your kitchen and bathroom and you could be dropping 20 litres before you know it.

Tips to get you started

In your home, you could...

Drop 3 litres by

Fixing that dripping tap and save up to three litres per day.

Drop 5 litres by

Putting a free save-a-flush device in your toilet cistern.

Drop 10 litres by

Only wash full loads of laundry.

Drop 12 litres by

  • Turning off the tap whilst you are brushing your teeth for two minutes.
  • Instead of running the tap for two minutes, wash vegetables in a bowl.

Drop 15 litres by

Washing the dishes by hand instead of half filling the dishwasher.

Drop 16 litres by

Spending two minutes less in the shower.

We love beautiful gardens and clean cars. But there are ways of using water outdoors, without using a hosepipe, that can save 100’s of litres – making 20 litres sound like a drop in the ocean.

and

Outside your property, you could...

Drop 150 litres by

  • Using a watering can instead of sprinklers for your plants.
  • Using a bucket and sponge to wash the car instead of a hose.

Drop 200 litres by

Installing a water butt to recycle used water for watering your garden.

Drop 250 litres by

Playing and relaxing for free at our water parks instead of filling the paddling pool.

Drop 1,000's litres by

Treating stonework instead of pressure washing.

I've dropped 16 litres by spending two minutes less in the shower.
