Reservoir levels

The shore line at Rutland Water in January

The rainfall in the region for January was below average. After several months with rainfall less than average, this means that in the last twelve months we've had only about 70% of the rainfall we would normally expect, making it one of the driest years in our over 100 year record. Whilst most of our reservoirs are within their normal operating range, Pitsford and Rutland Water are now both showing the impact of low flows in the Rivers Nene and Welland. Overall our reservoirs are 76% full and groundwater levels are below average. We ask all our customers to remain ‘Waterwise’ throughout the winter, whatever the weather.

The graphs below show monthly rainfall for the region compared to average and the percentage fill of our main storage reservoirs up to the end of January.

The Environment Agency also monitors the water resource situation and compiles a monthly report, available from their wesbite.
