The beach at Rutland Water

The beach at Rutland Water can be accessed throughout the year. The swimming area is open seven days a week in the Summer school holidays and selected weekends and some week days during June and September.

The newest addition to the reservoir’s North Shore at Sykes Lane has proved very popular since it opened at the end of June 2014. Now, both the beach and swimming area will be open every day during the summer school holidays, with lifeguards on duty, making it the perfect place to entertain the children.

Anglian Water, which owns the site, has transformed the shore near its Sykes Lane Visitor Centre with four hundred tonnes of sand covering a 140-metre stretch of shoreline, and a newly-created 2,800 square metre swimming area.

Will Kirstein, Park Manager at Rutland Water, said: “Rutland Water Park attracts over one million visitors every year with people travelling right across the country to spend their summer holiday here and to enjoy the thousands of acres of beautiful countryside, water sports and the nature reserve. This side of the reservoir has always been very popular with people enjoying barbecues on the grass, and we hope many of them will pay a visit to the new beach too.

“Visitors can paddle and swim in the designated area with peace of mind as we have lifeguards on duty. We will also be monitoring wind speed, direction and water temperature throughout the season to ensure it is safe and enjoyable for people to be in the water.”

Rutland Water Park has a 24-mile circular track for both walking and cycling. Cycle hire is available but for those who’d rather not do it on foot. Getting out and enjoying the water couldn't be easier either, at the Watersports Centre and Sailing Clubs. Even a novice can get out on the water if they want to try something new.

Anglian Water hopes the new beach and swimming area will bring even more people to the region, boosting the local tourism economy. The nearest train stations are Oakham and Stamford.

Subject to weather conditions the swimming area will  be open from 18 June 2016 between 10am and 6pm every Saturday and Sunday and 1pm to 6pm Thursday and Friday.  Open 7 days a week from 16 July.  People can park at Sykes Lane, Empingham, Oakham, LE15 8QL.
