Stowmarket sewer replacement scheme on course to finish by Christmas

Tuesday, November 29, 2016

Stowmarket residents will be getting a brand new sewer just in time for Christmas, as Anglian Water works in the town are set to finish in time for the festivities.

The unusual Christmas gift is the result of a £1.1m investment in the water recycling services in the town. Anglian Water’s vital upgrades to the sewer network will see a brand new two kilometre long sewer installed along Bury Road, Gipping Way, Navigation Approach and Tomo Road. The works started in June and nearly one and a half kilometres of new sewer pipe has been laid.

The current sewer in the town had been prone to leaks and the new one being laid will make sure customers can flush their toilets and use their showers for many years to come. It will also help protect Stowmarket’s natural environment.

Sarah Dobson from Anglian Water said: “We appreciate the works have caused some disruption in the town and will continue for the next few weeks. We hope to have the new sewer up and running before Christmas.

“Our engineers will continue to work extended hours and Saturdays to complete the work as quickly as possible. We thank residents and commuters for their patience while the work has been carried out.”
