UPDATE: The water main in Northampton has now been repaired and reinstated. Water supplies to properties will be back to normal shortly. The tap water may initially appear cloudy; this is due to air bubbles in the water, which are so small the water may appear white. This is completely normal after a burst main.

If you simply run the tap for a short time then this should clear. Any water that you run can be collected and used for watering plants or washing up. If your water remains cloudy please contact 03457 145 145.

Unfortunately some traffic disruption will continue tonight and tomorrow on the A5076 Mereway and possibly connecting roads as one lane in each direction remains closed whilst our teams work to repair the road surface. We expect the road to be re-opened by Wednesday morning.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “We would like to thank customers for their patience whilst we completed the repair.”

There will be traffic disruption in Northampton as engineers work to repair a burst water main in the town and the affected road.

The burst happened at the A5076 Mere Carriageway. One lane in each direction is closed and therefore some travel disruption is expected on the A5076 and connecting roads, including the A45. Our teams on site and at our 24-hour emergency office are working around the clock to repair the main and the road as quickly as possible. We expect the road to be re-opened by tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.

Some homes are suffering intermittent low pressure or no water from their taps as a result.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “We hope to bring everyone back on their normal water supply later today (Monday). We’ve kept the vast majority of customers on water by rerouting the network and keeping it topped up with a series of large tankers.

“We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused and thank customers for their patience.

“We realise how disruptive something like this can be. So in the meantime we are delivering bottled water to people without water supply, as well as providing water refill points (bowsers) outside the following locations: 330 London Road, 23 Friar’s Avenue and 9 Glastonbury Road, at the junction with Winchester Road.”
