    boil notice - Question and Answers
1). How long do I have to boil water for?It is sufficient to bring the water to boil and then allow it to cool. Prolonged boiling is not necessary. Using an electric kettle is fine, although a microwave oven could be used, as long as it brings water to the boil. 2). Can I use the water from my hot tap for drinking? No.  You should never drink from the hot tap.     Water efficiency trial is free for customers: 6 May 2008
Customers in Suffolk are being offered free water efficiency gadgets for their homes if they sign up to a six month efficiency trial with Anglian Water.   Households in the area of Ipswich, Felixstowe, Woodbridge, down to Stratford St Mary and across to Needham Market can join the trial by either visiting the Anglian Water stand at the Buttermarket, Ipswich, on Thursday 8 May between 9.30am and 5pm or by ringing 01206 289733. They need to have a meter already, though not .... click for more

Toilet bombs – an innovative product that keeps toilets smelling sweetly –  helped a team of young pupils to clinch the top award at the Huntingdonshire Young  Enterprise Finals.

    Work due to begin on construction of new water main: 21 April 2008
Anglian Water is due to begin work on a scheme which will ensure demand for water from 4,000 new properties planned for Eastern Milton Keynes can be met. The half-million pound project will involve laying 2.2 kilometres of new water mains along Newport Road (the A5130).     Essential sewer work to start on Canvey Island: 15 April 2008
Essential repairs will start soon on the sewer pumping from Long Road Pumping Station to Canvey Island Wastewater Treatment Works in Thames Road.  The work starts initially on 21 April with trial holes, investigations to ascertain requirements for the main construction works, which will follow a few weeks later.     Osprey’s early arrival takes her mate by surprise: 1 April 2008
They say that one Swallow does not make a summer, but the return of five ospreys to Rutland Water in the past few days suggests spring has arrived at the reservoir!  The first osprey arrived on 26 March, and four more of the spectacular fish-eating birds of prey have now returned. Most significant among the new arrivals are 08(97) and 5N(04) who successfully raised two chicks on the Lyndon Nature Reserve last summer.     Village to get new sewer: 28 March 2008

    New sewer scheme to start in Skegness: 20 March 2008
Essential work by Anglian Water to replace 220 metres of existing sewers is to start at the end of the month in Skegness. The new pipe is being installed around Tesco Car Park in the access road to the Coach Park. Essential work by Anglian Water to construct two new manholes and divert a sewer will start shortly in Halmer Gate, Spalding. The purpose of the work is to enhance flood protection.     Flood alleviation project starts in Cleethorpes: 8 February 2008
Work is due to start by Anglian Water on a £250,000 project to enhance flood alleviation in Ormsby Close, Cleethorpes. An underground surface water storage system which consists of about 65 meters of 675mm diameter pipe will be constructed.     Great Yarmouth sewer improvements under way: 23 January 2008
Work has just begun on a £1 million scheme by Anglian Water to renovate sewers in Great Yarmouth. Work is due to start by Anglian Water on a £686,000 flood alleviation project on the Chalkwell Esplanade, Westcliff-on-Sea. The work will start on Monday (14 January) and is due to last for about three months. The Cadets’ urgent need for radio equipment has been met with a donation of three base stations and over 250 mobile radios. For the second year running, an osprey pair has returned to Rutland and laid eggs, as a result of Anglian Water’s osprey translocation programme.  This is encouraging news for the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust and Anglian Water, since ospreys mate for life and return year after year to the same nest to breed.     Anglian Water maintains high standard of drinking water quality : 10 July 2002
Anglian Water customers enjoy some of the best quality water in England and Wales, according to a report issued by the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) today.     Satellite tracking reveals Ospreys are up to new tricks : 4 July 2002
A female osprey released in 2001, as part of the Anglian Water translocation project, is currently breaking all the osprey rules by being in Scotland when she should, theoretically, be in West Africa. Her movements have been tracked by satellite ever since she left Rutland Water on 3 September last year.  She has shown some unusual migration patterns, including staying for the winter in Portugal, never even reaching Africa.     Anglian Water promotes wind energy : 18 June 2002
The first wind turbine on an Anglian Water site is to be erected on Tuesday 18 July at the wastewater treatment works in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire. Following the successful fledging of a single chick in 2001, hopes for more breeding pairs of ospreys in England have been raised with the arrival of a female bird at Anglian Water’s Rutland Water.     Ospreys return to Rutland Water : 5 April 2002
Hopes for more breeding pairs of ospreys have been raised this week at Anglian Water’s Rutland Water, with the return of the year’s first osprey to the reservoir. Staff at Anglian Water based in Huntingdon raised over £3,500 last year for charity by simply donating rubbish.   The money was raised when staff sent nearly 600 used toner cartridges to ActionAid, a registered charity that converts the cartridges into cash for its aid programmes.  Simply by recycling two inkjet printer cartridges enables ActionAid to buy teaching materials for five children in Ethiopia.   Anglian Water has collected 1,555 cartridges since 1997, which would .... click for more

    Fat chance for sewers this Christmas: 16 December 2003
Fat from turkeys and other festive foods could create problems for householders and the environment over the Christmas period. A second pair of ospreys have successfully hatched at least two chicks at Rutland, the Anglian Water Osprey Project confirmed today. And with the first nesting pair now known to have three chicks, the partnership project between Anglian Water and the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, could not have hoped for better news. As predictable now as the changing of the clocks, ospreys have arrived back at Rutland Water after wintering in Africa.  Two males arrived on Sunday and a total of three have been seen this week regularly flying at the reservoir. Although it is early in the year, anticipation is high as one of the males spotted at the weekend is the same one who occupied the nest platform on the Lyndon Reserve for the last two years.  This nest is visible from hides on the reserve. Anglian Water has today accepted Ofwat’s Final Determination for water prices and investment during 2005-2010.     We are pleased to note that our customers will receive the lowest bill increases for water and sewerage in the country (7% compared to an average of 18%).     Sewer repair work planned for Canvey Island: 19 August 2004

    New Addition to the Osprey Colony at Rutland Water: 10 June 2004

    Osprey breeding season at Rutland Water is off to a flying start: 27 April 2004
With six male and two female ospreys flying at Rutland Water, hopes are high for another successful summer for the Anglian Water osprey project.   Last year’s female osprey, who produced 3 chicks, has rejoined her mate after a winter apart.  A second male, who fathered two chicks last year, is also back, but still waiting for his special female. Anglian Water announces that Jean Spencer is to join the company as Director – Regulation in May 2004.  Jean is currently Head of Regulation at Yorkshire Water.   A qualified chartered accountant, Jean began her career at Grant Thornton in 1981. In 1984 she joined the Audit Commission, leaving in 1989 to join Yorkshire Water since when Jean has had a number of roles, initially as Regulatory and Accounting Controller and then Chief Internal Auditor.     Industrial Action Suspended: 25 March 2004

The daily struggle to find safe drinking water in Malawi will be experienced first-hand by Norwich based Stephanie George, a scientist with Anglian Water.   Stephanie is travelling to Malawi with the charity WaterAid in January.     Road closer – Norwood Road, March: 1 November 2005
Norwood Road in March is to be closed to through traffic from November 7 to 21 January to allow Anglian Water to complete a  £345,000 water main replacement. An existing 12inch diameter water main is being replaced with modern plastic piping to reduce the likelihood of bursts and leaks.    The closure will be between the junction of Norwood Road with Hundred Road and the junction of Norwood Road with Elm Road.     Multi million pound project to improve water quality: 31 October 2005
Anglian Water is to invest £3.8 million pounds on improving drinking water quality in, and around, Harleston, South Norfolk.   The work will involve replacing nearly 40 kilometres of cast iron pipes, and also includes the nearby villages of Redenhall, Needham and Wortwell.   The scheme will commence at the beginning of November 2005, with work starting in the town centre in January 2006. A group of volunteers has been making the most of the fine weather, transforming a school playground over the half term holiday.
