Staff from Anglian Water to have a wheelie good time as they aim to raise £20,000 for WaterAid

Staff from Anglian Water and their alliance partners will be hopping onto their bike saddles this month as part of the WaterAid Cycle Ride, with an aim to raise £20,000 for charity.

It’s the 11th year that the event has been hosted by Anglian Water and two cycle rides are set to take place this September: The Gravel Ride 100 and the Rutland 125 – both covering ambitious distances all for a worthwhile cause.

Last weekend, cyclists from Anglian Water took part in the Gravel Ride 100 where they tackled 60 miles of tracks starting and finishing at Rutland Water.

The new ride format took riders around the reservoir, allowing them to take in the peninsula and the surrounding countryside heading towards Market Harborough, before heading back to Rutland Water.

Each cyclist is aiming to raise £100 each for their efforts, helping Anglian Water reach their fundraising goal for this event of £20,000 for WaterAid.

Anglian Water has supported WaterAid for over 40 years, and Anglian Water and its alliance partners is currently engaged with WaterAid, on the Beacon Project, in Nepal to improve access to safe clean water, sanitation and hygiene to over 100,000 people in the town of Lahan.

A pioneering collaboration between WaterAid, Anglian Water, The Nepalese Government, the local municipality, and the Nepal Water Supply Corporation.

The second set of events will take place this weekend which is split up into three stages for cyclists of any ability to enjoy with options to start at three of Anglian Water’s parks.

On Friday 15 September, cyclists will start at Rutland Water and pedal 45 miles to Grafham Water in the morning. The second stage will be the same afternoon, where riders will travel 30 miles from Grafham to Pitsford Water.

The final stage will take place on 16 September as cyclists can take the final leg of 50 miles from Pitsford back to Rutland Water – with all three stages totalling up to 125 miles.
