Anglian Water installs life-saving kit for villagers

New water main network will help prevent water shortages while leaving important social and environmental legacy 

A potentially life-saving defibrillator has been installed in a West Suffolk village, thanks to Anglian Water. 
 
The water company has donated the equipment to Depden Parish Council. 
 
Its new multi-million-pound water main highway, which stretches several hundred kilometres from North Lincolnshire to Essex, passes close to Depden village. 
 
Parish council chairman Andrew Read said: “Sadly a cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, at any age, at any time. CPR and defibrillation can increase a person’s chance of surviving and we’re grateful to the team at Anglian Water for their donation.” 
 
The network of new pipes will move water from the wetter to drier parts of eastern England, helping to tackle the threat of water shortages. 
 
The aim is to future-proof the region, one of the fastest growing in the UK in terms of both business and population. 
 
The project also plans to leave a social and green legacy. Earlier this year, hundreds of books were donated to schools along the pipeline route. Elsewhere, huge swathes of wildflowers have been planted. 
  
Kiera Martin, from the team delivering the new network of water pipes, said: “We are glad to show our support to the people in and around Depden by giving access to a defibrillator. We hope it is never needed but are pleased to give the reassurance of it being there.” 
 
The water main network is expected to go into service in 2025.
