Anglian Water has announced its support of the newly-launched WaterSafe register, the UK’s first ever industry-wide plumbing assurance scheme designed to heighten safety standards.

Constituting the first plumbing body of its kind, WaterSafe is a brand new dedicated online search facility and assurance scheme designed to provide recognition for competent plumbers. The aim is to a protect homeowners and businesses seeking plumbing work, while contributing to the safety of drinking water supplies.

For the consumer, the result is that choosing a plumber has never been easier. Bringing together all of the water company and trade association, approved contractors’ schemes in the UK. WaterSafe enables users to source an approved, plumbing business whenever they are and rest assured that their recognised plumbers are fully qualified to carry out the work in their home.

The scheme was officially launched today in Westminster where key stakeholders within the water industry congregated and received a series of presentations on the WaterSafe scheme.

John Wood, a plumbing and heating engineer with over 30 years experience and now a Water Regulations manager at Anglian Water, said: “As part founder of WaterSafe, we are thrilled to welcome its arrival which will help to heighten and consolidate safety standards for water supplies in the UK.

"With an onus on simplifying the process of choosing a plumber, WaterSafe brings together all individual company and trade association schemes – such as our Aplus scheme - under one umbrella organisation so that consumers can be assured of having a competent and qualified plumber every time.

“As well as promoting good plumbing practice and compliance with the Water Fittings Regulations, the scheme will help to drive out rogue plumbers and give approved plumbing businesses the recognition they deserve.”

The WaterSafe scheme brings together the seven existing Approved Contractors’ Schemes operating in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and is also supported by all of the water companies and key plumbing bodies in the UK.
