I am Ben Saxton, an Olympic sailor, World and European Champion, and I grew up loving Grafham Water. Don’t worry, in this cold weather you don’t have to get wet in order to enjoy what’s on offer at Anglian Water’s parks. It’s time to get out there and start enjoying them.
Outdoor spaces have come to the rescue during to the Coronavirus pandemic. It has been great to see more and more people joining me in enjoying the great outdoors. I find getting away to a water park is like a holiday - the total change of scenery feels very welcome and I always return energised, even if I have just gone there for an hour or so.
Treat yourself, or share the positivity with others. There is plenty to enjoy at a water park for you, your friends, or for the whole family.
They are a great way to get immersed in nature and it can be a great education for you and your family - the diverse habitats mean that the parks are overflowing with wildlife.
Water parks are also a great place for a relaxing and walking – or for fitness. I enjoy running and cycling and I enjoy the positive feeling after completing the challenge, the health benefits, and the change of scenery and routine. The challenge of exercising for fun has been a very positive experience for me this year and I am looking forward to carrying this on into 2021.
Water based activities are obviously a huge part of the water parks. Anglian Water’s parks are havens for water sports and fishing, and in the summer there are inflatable obstacle courses too. However, I recommend waiting until the water gets a little warmer before learning to sail!
Whichever activity has tickled your curiosity there is a lot get excited about. Over the festive holidays these outdoor spaces are great places to meet friends and family.
A family member recently completed the Couch to 5k challenge this year and it was such a rewarding experience for them. Not only are they much fitter and heathier, but they are happier too, and rightly proud. Your fitness goals may seem easier when you’re distracted by the beauty of a water park.
With the nation soon to enter 2021 and all the fitness goals that always come with a new year I encourage you to incorporate visiting water parks into your plan. The more enjoyable and varied fitness can be the more likely you are to succeed.
We all need time to regroup and recover. It is time to smile, time to relax, and time to be happy. Enjoy the rest of 2020 and remember, things are looking up for 2021.
