A £1.5million investment scheme by Anglian Water will provide properties in Ashingdon, Essex with a new sewerage system, allowing residents to have the opportunity to connect to mains sewerage for the first time.

The scheme starting this month will see a brand new system installed, helping to reduce pollution in the neighbourhood caused by poor performing private drainage systems.

To minimise disruption, Anglian Water will be installing over 65% of the new pipes in fields and private land. However, there will be some disruption to allow for additional pipes to be laid in Canewdon and Ashingdon Road.

Road impacts to enable work to take place will be as follows:

·       Road Closure: Canewdon Road (14 February 2022 to 18 February 2022)

·       Traffic lights: Canewdon Road (16 February 2022 to 18 February 2022)

·       Traffic lights: Ashingdon Road (18 February 2022 to 04 May 2022).

The water company will be using smart traffic lights system during the work which uses sensor technology meaning the lights will automatically change their timings based on patterns of traffic and the volume of vehicles to help efficiently regulate the flow.

Nicola Harvey, spokesperson for Anglian Water said, “We are delighted to be able to deliver this project for the residents of Ashingdon. Not only will this enable them to simplify their waste water usage but will protect the area from flooding and pollutions in the future.

She continued, “The use of the new smart traffic system will mean that we can help reduce the impact to the local community whilst we undertake the essential work in the road. We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we are working in the area.”

A full diversion will be in place while the Anglian Water team close Canewdon Road and access to the properties in this area will be maintained.
