The Independent Challenge Group (ICG) is a an independent group of experts who help make sure Anglian Water is doing the right thing for its customers.

Appointed by Anglian Water’s Board and led by an independent Chair, we review and challenge the company’s plans and performance to make sure they reflect what customers needs and expect.

Our role is to speak up for the interests of 7 million customers who rely on Anglian Water’s services across the East of England and Hartlepool.

How we stand up for customers

The ICG is one of the primary ways that the Board of Anglian Water demonstrates that the company’s business plans have been subject to independent scrutiny and challenge, as required by the regulator.

We don’t deal directly with customer complaints or questions. Instead, we look at the bigger picture – drawing on a wide range of customer views and experiences from across the region.

We work alongside Anglian Water’s Customer Board and with the Water Voice Consumer Panel, set up by CCW in 202, make sure Anglian Water’s business plans reflect the priorities of the full range of interests across the company’s area including:

  • households and bill payers, now and in the future
  • business customers
  • people who live or work in the area alongside community groups, tourists and travellers passing through.

By bringing these perspectives together, we help to ensure that Anglian Water’s plans are independently checked and focused on customers’ priorities.
