Grantham to Bexwell pipeline

We’re building a new 90km water pipeline between Grantham, Peterborough and Bexwell, near Downham Market.

It will increase reliability and reduce the number of homes and businesses which currently rely on a single pipeline for all their water needs.

Our teams have started pipelaying work and expect it to be complete by the end of 2024.

What we've done

We held an online engagement event in September 2021, to showcase our plans and ask for feedback.

A copy of the community newsletter, sent ahead of the event, is here.

Following the event, we dug trenches and boreholes along the planned route, and carried out archaeological surveys, to better understand conditions below the ground. You can read more about our ground investigation work here.

We submitted an Environmental Statement (ES), and a planning application, to the councils along the route in February 2022. Two of the five councils (North Kesteven District Council and South Kesteven District Council) have given us permission to begin our work in their areas.

The ES is part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process used to help protect the environment by providing local planning authorities with a detailed evaluation of what effects the pipeline will have on the environment. This enables planning authorities to be fully aware of the broader environmental picture when they decide whether to grant planning permission.

Our impact

We will work hard to keep the impact on communities along the route, and the environment, to a minimum.
