For our customers that do not pay by a weekly, fortnightly or monthly payment scheme we now offer Pay By Bank.

There will be a QR code on your bill that you can scan with your mobile phone. This will then take you to a page where you can choose your bank. It will then transfer you to your personal bank app or to a web page to complete the payment.

This service is provided by Ecospend who are approved and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

What is Pay By Bank?

This is a new payment method where you safely transfer money to us directly from your bank account, through an FCA authorised third-party provider

How does it work?

Selecting Pay By Bank as your method of payment will take you to a list of all the banks registered in the UK.

To complete the payment, you must select the bank you wish to pay from. When the bank is selected, your bank will authorise you according to the bank’s security measures, most likely this will come in the form of biometric ID authentication or your unique pin code.

Once you have been authenticated you will find all the necessary payment information is pre-populated, including the amount, the payee’s sort code and account number. Select ‘confirm’ and the payment and it will be complete

Is it secure?

Open banking payments are quicker, easier and more secure than other payment methods. You don't have to key in your card details manually or trust a website to store them for you. Simply select your bank from a list and approve the purchase with your face ID or fingerprint.

Pay By Bank uses the UK's Open Banking infrastructure to securely connect to your bank's Online or Mobile banking. This allows you to log in using your existing credentials. Your login credentials are not seen by anyone and no personal bank account information is stored.

Ecospend are the third-party provider for this new payment method and are an authorised payment institution regulated by the FCA.

They provide open banking capabilities to connect merchants to consumers safely and securely.

To allow payment to be made Anglian Water will pass on the following information to Ecospend:

Your payment reference number

The amount you want to pay

How we share the data

We share your data with Ecospend using an API (Application Programming Interface).

How long do we keep your data

Ecospend retains payment transaction data for 5 years in accordance with payment legislation, including The Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017.
