Protecting our environment

All the water we source is borrowed from nature so we take our responsibility as a custodian of the environment very seriously. We all have a legal and moral duty to protect and enhance our environmentally diverse region which contains:

  • thousands of kilometres of rivers
  • the UK's only nationally-protected wetland landscape - the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads
  • 48 designated bathing waters
  • over 7000 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (47 are on our land)
  • large areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Our region is one of the driest in the UK, with an extensive coastline and low-lying land, making it particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
