Teams from Anglian Water’s @one Alliance have recently supported the rebuild of one of Peterborough’s well-known attractions.

The Iron Age roundhouse, located at the Flag Fen Archaeology Park in Peterborough, was destroyed following a fire – resulting in a huge loss for the community and thousands of school children who visit to learn about the region’s history.

To help with the rebuild and restructure of the building, Anglian Water’s @one Alliance donated £5,000 to bring the structure back to life and return yesterday’s history to the present day.

Along with the donation, colleagues from the Alliance volunteered on site to repaint parts of the museum and moving materials around the park to support the installation of the new roundhouses.

Becky Housden, Assistant Project Manager and volunteer lead, said: “Following the devastating fire at Flag Fen and knowing its importance to the local community, we wanted to support in the rebuild of the museum to ensure visitors can continue to learn and enjoy its history for years to come.

“It was a really rewarding day, and a great chance to give something back locally for this part of the region.”

The water company is also completing essential upgrade work at Flag Fen’s water recycling centre, focusing on tackling pollution challenges and improving the water quality that is leaving the site.

In 2025 alone, around £7 million has been spent on upgrading and automating existing equipment, installing new assets, reducing ammonia levels, and adding flow meters to understand performance better.

Alongside these flood prevention efforts, Anglian Water has carried out several other projects across Peterborough, including building an underground tank in Fletton to increase the capacity of the sewerage network and rolling out smart meters throughout the city.

Becky added: “We’re delighted to be supporting the local area in different ways, both by protecting an important part of our heritage and by improving the environment.”
