Self-lay

If you are a non-household customer or applying for a temporary building supply, at the point of connection you will need to have selected a retailer. To read more and for guidance on selecting a retailer go to the Open Water website.

Should you choose the self lay option there are 3 choices:

Self-lay mains.
Self-lay services only.
Self lay mains and services.

Requirements

The work must be completed by an SLP which is accredited by the Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS).

Charging Regimes

Scheme delivery currently have 3 different charging regimes which means we charge differently depending on when the agreement was generated and accepted by the Developer or Self Lay Provider, details below:

If your agreement was created and signed prior to April 1st 2018: zonal fixed only, no zonal variable. Self Lay Mains were costed with a discount on the source of water and asset payment to the SLP/Developer once AW adopted the new mains laid on site. New Mains and Connections were costed with a discount up front on the mains costs. No discount on the plots.

If your agreement was created and signed from April 1st 2018 to 31st March 2020: zonal fixed and variable. Self Lay Mains were costed with a discount on the source of water and asset payment to the SLP/Developer once AW adopted the new mains laid on site. New Mains and Connections were costed with a discount up front on the mains costs. No discount on the plots and the zonal variable charge as this was to pay for future investment in infrastructure due to growth in the region.

If your agreement was created and signed after 1st April 2020 to present . Infrastructure charges and water infrastructure discount were applied. Mains are costed as 100% of the cost and discount is applied to the plots.
