From major treatment upgrades and digital monitoring to new sewer connections and environmental programmes, the IOS Alliance is helping to deliver a smarter, more resilient water system for today and the future. Supporting Anglian Water in managing complex infrastructure while improving performance for customers, communities and the environment.
Together, IOS brings a fully integrated approach to delivery. Aligning planning, design, construction, governance and digital capability into one operating model. Helping ensure investment is delivered efficiently, transparently and with long-term impact.
Making improvements where they matter
Our region continues to grow, and with that comes increasing pressure on water and wastewater infrastructure. The IOS Alliance is helping Anglian Water respond to this challenge. Strengthening ageing assets, improving treatment performance and ensuring networks can operate reliably during periods of high demand and extreme weather.
At the same time, IOS is tackling some of the most important environmental priorities. This includes reducing storm overflow impacts through Event Duration Monitoring and Flow Monitoring programmes, alongside introducing real-time river water quality monitoring.
Across AMP8, IOS is supporting the delivery of major investment programmes, including over £92 million in monitoring improvements, £166 million in continuous water quality monitoring, and £59 million in first-time sewer connections. Each programme designed to improve resilience, protect the environment and provide greater transparency for customers.
Putting our customers first
We recognise that the work we deliver directly impacts the communities we serve. That’s why IOS is built around providing clear, transparent and reliable outcomes for customers.
Through real-time environmental monitoring, customers can access better information about river health and network performance. At the same time, robust governance and reporting ensure that investment is clearly tracked and aligned to regulatory commitments.
By planning work carefully and delivering within live operational environments, IOS helps minimise disruption while maintaining essential services. Ensuring customers continue to receive safe, reliable water and wastewater services at all times.
Adding value to local communities
We want every project we deliver to leave a positive legacy. That’s why we run school workshops on science and engineering, support festivals. Along with volunteering in communities, and partnering with local organisations to make a difference where we can.
Every project delivered through IOS is designed to create lasting benefits beyond the asset itself. From connecting properties to the public sewer network through S101a schemes, to improving the quality of local rivers and watercourses, the Alliance is helping to enhance the places where people live.
Environmental improvements are at the heart of this work. Reducing pollution, improving biodiversity and providing greater visibility of river health through continuous monitoring. Supporting stronger, healthier ecosystems across the region.
At the same time, IOS ensures infrastructure keeps pace with growth. Helping communities remain resilient, protected and supported both now and into the future.
Working as one
The IOS Alliance brings together three core partners. Barhale, Kier and M Group Water, who work collaboratively as a single, integrated team.
Each partner contributes specialist expertise across civil engineering, design, programme delivery, digital systems and operational management. Creating a multi-disciplinary capability that can deliver complex projects safely and efficiently, even within highly regulated and operational environments.
By aligning processes, systems and ways of working, IOS removes traditional barriers between organisations. Enabling faster decision-making, improved coordination and more consistent delivery across programmes.
A new approach to delivery
IOS represents a step change in infrastructure delivery, bringing together a fully integrated, data-led operating model. Through smarter planning, improved risk management and real-time data, projects are delivered more efficiently, predictably and at scale, while enhancing long-term performance.
At its core is a strong focus on people, with clear processes, consistent governance and a collaborative environment enabling teams to work effectively and with shared purpose.
As AMP8 progresses, IOS will continue to evolve into a high-performing, digitally enabled organisation, supporting environmental improvements, strengthening resilience and driving regional growth. More than a delivery model, IOS is a trusted partner, helping to create cleaner waterways, stronger communities and infrastructure fit for the future.
