Projects across our region

We’re going further to look after the environment by investing over £300m in our region. As well as keeping up with demand as our region grows, these upgrades help protect local wildlife and make the water we give back to nature even better.

Below you'll find a breakdown of the projects we're working on in 2021/2022 and the total we are investing in each project.

Bedfordshire

£5million to lay a new pipeline between Ampthill Reservoir and Brickhill Copse Reservoir to help keep taps running and minimise the impacts of future droughts.
£4million at Dunstable Water Recycling Centre to protect and enhance animal and plant life in the River Ouzel by helping us remove more phosphorous from the treated wastewater being returned to the environment.
£1.1million to install a screen at Clapham (Bedford) river intake to protect eels as part of a nationwide environmental protection programme to help reverse the decline in eel stocks in the UK.

Buckinghamshire

£1million at Winslow Water Recycling Centre to protect and enhance animal and plant life in Claydon Brook by helping us return higher quality wastewater to the environment.

Cambridgeshire

£12million at 20 water recycling centres to protect and enhance animal and plant life in many streams and rivers such as the Cam and Ouse by helping us return higher quality wastewater to the environment.
£71million to create new interconnecting pipes between Harrowby, Gazeley and Great Horkesley that can move water around the region wherever and whenever we need it, to help keep taps running and minimise the impacts of future droughts.
£610,000 investment at Grafham Dam pumping station to prevent the escape of invasive non-native species into Diddington Brook.
£240,000 to install new plant at Lower Links Water Treatment Works to improve the quality of local drinking water.

Essex

£2.6million to build a new sewage pumping station and over 6km of sewer to support population growth in Beaulieu to the north east of Chelmsford.
£910,000 to connect rural homes to the sewerage network for the first time in Ashingdon.
£460,000 to install new plant at Earls Colne and Codham Water Treatment Works to improve the quality of local drinking water.
£570,000 to improve bathing water quality at Clacton Martello and Jaywick.
£2.9million at nine water recycling centres to protect and enhance animal and plant life in streams and rivers such as Layer Brook and the River Colne by helping us to return higher quality wastewater to the environment.

Leicestershire

£500,000 at Kibworth Water Recycling Centre to protect and enhance animal and plant life in Langton Brook by increasing storm tank capacity to help return higher quality wastewater to the environment.

Lincolnshire

£2.4million at eight water recycling centres to protect and enhance animal and plant life in watercourses such as Skitter Beck and Nettleham Beck by helping us to return higher quality wastewater to the environment.
£121million to create new interconnecting pipes between Gainsborough, Harpswell, Harrowby and Gazeley that can move water around the region wherever and whenever we need it, to keep taps running and minimise the impacts of future droughts.
£2.7million to install equipment at Cloves Bridge and Tinwell river intakes to protect eels as part of a nationwide environmental protection programme to help reverse the decline in eel stocks in the UK.
£1.5million to build a new borehole at Candlesby to continue the supply of safe, clean drinking water.
£7million for new plant at Irby Reservoir to remove increased levels of nitrate in the raw water, maintaining high quality drinking water.

Norfolk

£9million to connect rural homes to the sewerage network for the first time in Knapton, Morley St Botolph, Rockland St Peter, Wormegay, Billockby and Clippesby.
£8million at 13 water recycling centres to protect and enhance animal and plant life in streams and rivers such as the Thet and Wensum by helping us return higher quality wastewater to the environment.
£13million to create new interconnecting pipes between Harrowby and Gazeley, Norwich and Ludham, and Little Melton and High Oak, that can move water around the region wherever and whenever we need it, to help keep taps running and minimise the impacts of future droughts.
£972,000 to install new plant at three water treatment works in Barnham Cross, Two Mile Bottom and West Bradenham improve the quality of local drinking water.
£4million to reduce the risk of sewer flooding to properties in Gorleston.
£412,000 to improve bathing water quality at Heacham and Hunstanton.

Northamptonshire

£929,000 at Rushton Water Recycling Centre to protect and enhance animal and plant life in the Upper Ise by helping us to remove more phosphorous from the treated wastewater being returned to the environment.
£1.9million at seven water recycling centres to protect and enhance animal and plant life in streams and rivers such as Shutlanger Brook and the River Nene by helping us return higher quality wastewater to the environment.
£1.7million for a new reinforcement main to provide an increase in pressure for properties at risk of low pressure in Daventry.
£1.5million to install a screen at Duston Mill river intake to protect eels as part of a nationwide environmental protection programme to help reverse the decline in eel stocks in the UK.

Rutland

£4million at Uppingham and Oakham Water Recycling Centres to protect and enhance animal and plant life in Uppingham Brook and the North Gwash by helping us return higher quality wastewater to the environment.
£160,000 to refurbish microstrainers at Wing Water Treatment Works to continue providing safe, clean drinking water to the local area.

Suffolk

£413,000 to reduce the risk of sewer flooding to properties in Felixstowe.
£973,000 at Rougham Water Recycling Centre to protect and enhance animal and plant life in the River Lark by helping us remove more phosphorous from the treated wastewater being returned to the environment.
£8million at 12 water recycling centres to protect and enhance animal and plant life in watercourses such as Stowlangtoft Stream and the River Gipping by helping us return higher quality wastewater to the environment.
£3million to relocate some major sewers at Lowestoft Water Recycling Centre that cross an area undergoing coastal erosion.
£37million to create new interconnecting pipes between Gazeley and Great Horkesley, and between Rede and Boyton Hall, that can move water around the region wherever and whenever we need it, to help keep taps running and minimise the impacts of future droughts.
£829,000 to install equipment at Bucklesham Mill river intake to protect eels as part of a nationwide environmental protection programme to help reverse the decline in eel stocks in the UK.
£96,000 to refurbish plant used in the Debenham river support system. The system helps to protect animal and plant life during periods of low river flow.

Working with farmers
Agriculture is a vital industry in East Anglia, that’s why Anglian Water works closely with our region’s farmers to maintain healthy water, and healthy crops.

Anglian Water’s team of expert agricultural advisors visit farms in our region and talk face to face with farmers and agronomists. As well as listening and responding to the many challenges farmers face, they offer practical advice. All while exploring new ideas for farming with the future of water at front of mind.
