We’re building a 69-kilometre water pipeline between Bury St Edmunds to Colchester.
It is the most southerly section of our new drinking water network and will eventually join up with the other planned pipelines to the south, forming the network that stretches from North Lincolnshire to Essex.
Update on works
As part of our updated programme, construction and reinstatement we will continue during the winter months, where conditions are suitable, from Bury St Edmunds to Colchester.
Supporting works
We are building a pumping station at Wherstead and Rede.
Our impact
We continue to minimise our impact on communities and the environment, and work with local communities to deliver a legacy along the route.
If you would like to contact us about the Bury St Edmunds to Colchester section of the project, please email strategicpipelines@anglianwater.co.uk.

Restoring the land |
After building and testing the strategic pipe we’ll restore the land. |
Mid 2026 |
Commissioning date |
We test water quality and pressure-test the pipeline with full quality assurance. Once complete, the pipeline is sampled and prepared for connection to the water network. |
